In 2022, Tremor took on the challenge of creating the Açorean Modular Orchestra (OMA). This project was inspired by the close connection between a generation of island musicians and modular synthesizers, electronic music, and sonic experimentation. Its goal is to form a temporary and occasional group that, under the direction of a guest artist, provides unique moments of immersion and improvisation, activating a resonant and communal space of sound and image, culminating in an eight-hour durational performance.
The collective is formed through an open call aimed at the interested community and welcomes musicians—both professional and amateur—who own analog or digital synthesizers or software emulators. It blends community engagement in public spaces with mystical ritual, finding resonance in "inner space music."
Since its inception, more than fifty musicians from different geographies and generations have participated in the Açorean Modular Orchestra, under the supervision of various North American artists and collectives known for their idiosyncratic soundscapes—such as the floating drone of Bitchin Bajas, the noise and installation-based approach of the duo MSHR, or the dense, immersive sonic mass of Marshstepper.
