Since 2023, Tremor has used the Pavilhão do Mar as its central venue. Located on Ponta Delgada's seafront promenade, in the heart of the city, the pavilion is defined by its brutalist architecture and is part of a complex where maritime and recreational activities converge.
Ideal, due to its size and characteristics, for the functions of a meeting and information point and an immersive space for shows, the space needed interventions that would improve the comfort and pause dimensions of the festival experience.
It is in this context that the Carcaça project emerged. By forming a multidisciplinary team - including designers, lighting technicians and architects - it aims to develop creative and ecologically sustainable solutions that can be applied to Tremor's activities, but also conceptually and physically exportable to other projects of the association that coordinates it and that face the same challenges.
For Carcaça's first research residency, the invitation will be addressed to the Azorean architect Paulo Vieitas and the Porto collective Febre. The challenge involves creating areas for rest, enjoyment and socializing; transforming the space into a total artistic experience that changes daily; incorporating elements from the natural world that reflect on the emerging ideas of reconstruction, regeneration and recreation with reusable, recyclable and sustainable materials.
Carcaça will have a moment of conversation to immerse ourselves in the research process of the invited artists.
