Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

Breaking away from the male-dominated tradition of Gnawa, Asmâa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou are one of the few female groups dedicated to exploring the possibilities of this rich spiritual expression originating from Morocco. Led by Asmâa Hamzaoui, the daughter of renowned Gnawa master Rachid Hamzaoui, the group brings a refreshing and meaningful energy to this ancient art form. While Asmâa excels at playing the guembri, a three-stringed bass instrument central to Gnawa music, the accompanying all-female band delivers performances that blend profound rhythms with enchanting vocals. By merging cultural celebration with a challenge to gender conventions, Asmâa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou have earned global recognition, offering a unique and transformative perspective on this musical heritage.
